A Q+A with Jake the Head Brewer at First Chop!
- What is your favorite from the First Chop range?
POW is my beer of choice, I think the peachy flavours work really well with the malty body of the beer.
- What music do you listen to whilst doing a brew / drinking a beer?
Depending on what kind of day Im having it can be pretty varied. Its either a MUSE / Maximo park kind of day or a Bastille / Bears Den kind of day.
Listen to Jake's Spotify playlist
Jake First Chop 10
Maximo Park - Books from Boxes
Maximo Park - Our Velocity
Muse - Feeling Good
Muse - Uprising
Biffy Clyro - Re-arrange
Bears Den - Above the Clouds of Pompeii
Bombay Bicycle Club - Its alright now
Bastille - Things we lost in the Fire
The Lumineers - Ophelia
Cage the Elephant- Aint no rest for the Wicked
- What’s your background in the craft ale scene?
So I started out in the industry about 5 years ago. I learnt my trade as a brewery apprentice with a brewpub group called Brewhouse & Kitchen. I underwent the apprentice program they had on offer and made it to Head Brewer at one of their brewpubs. After spending a few years with them and after a few awards I threw my hat into the Manchester brewery ring. Since then I have been working at First Chop. I started out here as a Senior Brewer and took the step up to Head Brewer in May.
- Session or non session beer? That is the question.
Always session, I LOVE beer. If I'm drinking I like to try as much as possible! For research purposes obviously...
- Any new flavors you want Rik to bring into the mix at First Chop?
I would like to push the boat out a little and start trying some sour beers or some higher ABV IPA's.
- Anything else you’d like to add whilst we have you here?
I'd just like to say thanks for all the support! Keep on drinking and keep on enjoying our beers!
